About Darkrooms
Nestled in the back of the building, on the lower-ground floor, the photography darkrooms are where students in the Department of Media, Communications and Cultural Studies learn and improve their film-development skills. The facilities include multiple darkrooms and process areas where you can develop and print all formats of analogue film using a range of enlargers and film-development techniques. As part of the facilities we have a Colenta film processor and Ilford Ilfolab paper processing machines, as well as professional-quality film scanners with the latest software available to book in our digital lab. We also have a colour darkroom available on campus, which is also available to book through our photography technical practice tutors.
At the end of the year, the rooms and hallways surrounding the darkrooms, as well as the rest of the building, are used to display student’s work during degree shows.
