College Green

At the heart of the campus you’ll find our large College Green – an unexpectedly tranquil space in bustling New Cross. On a sunny day this oasis is the perfect place to relax with friends, catch up on your reading, or take in the mix of old and new sights across the campus.

It’s also where some Students’ Union sports clubs do their training. And it’s where a giant marquee is erected to host many of the Welcome Week activities each year, including the Freshers’ Fayre. This is where you can explore and sign up for our student-run clubs and societies.

The Green, which is often called the ‘back field’ is overlooked by the back of the Richard Hoggart Building, Whitehead Building, Lockwood Building, Professor Stuart Hall Building and tennis courts, and you can also see the Ben Pimlott Building (including its distinctive scribble sculpture) and Warmington Tower in the distance.
